It would have been fascinating to be a fly on the wall in 2003 when the relative allocation of space in the current iteration of the BMW museum was discussed. More than once, I have accused the company of losing sight of its origins in motorcycles – the very company motto, “The Ultimate Driving Machine”, is entirely car-focused. But whoever was championing the cause of the two-wheelers at that design meeting was more than just successful. Motorcycles don’t just receive their due in the museum, they even get an extra something in the wall of bikes that faces the visitor at several points.
